Test Details

Sample size: Sixteen women aged 29-65 years.

Protocol: Serum applied to split-face 15 minutes before LED treatment. LED treatment carried out for 10 minutes with a red-near infrared light panel

Treatment time: Repeated daily for 3 months.

Sourced from South Africa with sustainable farming methods, Maysama’s green rooibos undergoes patented extraction, which concentrates the main flavonoid, Aspalathin, responsible for its antioxidant properties, making it 70 times more potent than standard rooibos tea.

How it works

Leading photobiomodulation scientist, Dr Michael Hamblin, attributes Maysama’s results to a biochemical reaction, which enhances mitochondrial metabolism.

Mitochondrial respiration relies on glucose as a food source. As we age, mitochondria can become dysfunctional and the rate of mitochondrial respiration decreases. Aspalathin-enriched green rooibos helps mitochondria with the uptake of glucose, increasing the rate of mitochondrial respiration and increasing ATP output.

Red and near infrared light also increases ATP output by increasing the rate at which the enzyme ATP synthase operates. Free radicals are produced as a by-product of this process.

Aspalathin-enriched green rooibos corrects substrate metabolism for mitochondrial respiration, which accelerates and amplifies the action of red-NIR LED light.
