A BREAKTHROUGH IN RED LIGHT THERAPY

Pulsed LED light therapy involves rapidly switching a light source on and off at specific intervals, known as pulsing. Unlike continuous wave light, which remains constantly on, pulsed LED light delivers light in short bursts to provide a more effective biological response.

WHY CHOOSE PULSED LIGHT?

Pulsed LED therapy outperforms regular (continuous wave) LED therapy treatments every time. Pulsed light enhances tissue penetration, accelerates cell regeneration and upregulates the production of cellular energy, to better impact the production of collagen for skin rejuvenation. What’s more, pulsed LED uniquely helps dermal skin cells to absorb skincare products, making your skincare routine more effective.

THE BENEFITS OF PULSED LIGHT

Let’s take a closer look at how pulsed light delivers.

Improved Skincare Absorption

Pulsed LED light therapy enhances the absorption of skincare ingredients, increasing the bioavailability of active compounds.

Pulsing causes the cell to ‘swell’ and contract repeatedly, creating a "breathing" effect. When the cell contracts it ‘sucks’ in micronutrients surrounding the cell by Transmembrane Convection. This ‘delivery system’ is used successfully in medical fields to increase the uptake of chemotherapy drugs.

When pulsed light is used in combination with your topical skincare, it benefits the uptake of skincare ingredients helping to improve the efficacy of your skincare products.

Cellular 'Rest' Periods

Research shows that cells need periods of rest to be effectively stimulated. Continuous light therapy may overstimulate cells, reducing their responsiveness. Pulsed LED light therapy offers cells short breaks between bursts of light, which promotes multiple opportunities for stimulation and a more effective biological response.

Optimizes Therapeutic Benefit

Pulsed light treatments consistently show enhanced effects in promoting cell turnover and increased ATP production, driving more collagen synthesis. Across multiple studies, pulsed light therapy demonstrated superior effects in promoting cellular repair, reducing inflammation and increased biostimulation compared to continuous wave treatments.

Reduced Oxidative Stress

Prolonged exposure to Continuous Wave LED leads to an overabundance of free radicals, also known as Reactive Oxygen Species [ROS], which start to slow down and inhibit the beneficial effects of your LED Light Therapy treatment.

Pulsed light therapy prevents the overproduction of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), keeping treatments within the "Goldilocks zone" where the stimulus is ‘just right’ for inducing optimal cellular responses. This leads to better stimulation of mitochondria and reduced oxidative stress, making it a preferred option for skin rejuvenation treatments.

Cooling Between Pulses

Another advantage of pulsed light therapy is the opportunity for the skin to cool between pulses. This is especially beneficial for individuals who are prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and melasma. By preventing overheating of superficial tissue, pulsed light reduces the risk of overstimulating melanocytes, which can cause pigmentation issues.

Reduced Oxidative Stress

Pulsed LED light delivers higher peak power during each pulse, which increases the light’s intensity without increasing the overall energy dose. These brief high-intensity bursts allow pulsed light to penetrate deeper and stimulate cells more effectively while avoiding overexposure.

For example, if Continuous Wave LED therapy delivers a peak power (light intensity) of 100mw/cm2 and a dose of 10 Joules over your treatment session, Pulsed Wave would double the peak power to 200mw/cm2 to achieve the same energy dose of 10 Joules. This higher peak power increases light penetration and enhances biostimulatory effect.
